Exploring Beech Fork State Park

Nestled in the wooded hills of West Virginia, Beech Fork State Park offers a secluded place for you to have your next adventure.

Beech Fork Lake

Beech Fork Lake serves as the centerpiece attraction for the park. The lake covers an area of 720 acres and has 31 miles of shoreline. The area is teeming with wildlife, making it a perfect place for relaxing recreation.

Beech Fork Marina

  • Address: 5445 Co Hwy 13/8, Lavalette, WV
  • Hours: Daily, Open 24 hours

If your plans involve getting out onto the water for any reason, you should stop by the Beech Fork Marina first.

Located on the Northwest side of the lake, this complete marina and docking facility boasts over 225 slips for docking your boats as well as a nearby boat ramp. If you are looking to rent, the Beech Fork Marina has a rental fleet consisting of 30 boats and more, including:

  • Pontoon boats
  • Fishing boats
  • Bass boats
  • Kayaks
  • Canoes

The bait shop and store on site is stocked with all manner of fishing and boating equipment as well as a variety of snacks and soft drinks.

Fishing

Fishing is by far one of the most popular activities at Beech Fork Lake, being one of the largest fishing lakes in West Virginia. Anglers will find that there are plenty of quiet coves that are perfect for casting your hook, both onshore and on a boat.

Some of the fish species you can expect to find here includes:

  • Trout
  • Bass (spotted, hybrid striped, largemouth)
  • Bluegill
  • Channel catfish
  • walleye

Canoeing and Other Water Activities

In such a tranquil environment, Beech Fork State Park really does offer a fantastic location for having a relaxing day at the lake. You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the water in a number of ways, including:

  • Canoeing
  • Kayaking
  • Swimming
  • Boating

Visitors to the park can also take advantage of the swimming pool on site where you can purchase drinks and snacks and use the public bathhouse facilities. The pool is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Hiking

Beech Fork State Park is home to plenty of hiking trails that vary in difficulty. All of the trails, however, will allow you to witness the beauty of the West Virginian countryside first hand. Be sure to wear bright colors during the hunting seasons.

One of the most popular trails at the park is the Overlook Trail. This short 2 mile trek offers some of the most spectacular views of the area as you get to gaze upon the lake and the surrounding wooded hills.

Hikers also enjoy the Mary Davis Trail, a more difficult route that takes you through tranquil woods nearby.

Disc Golf

The Disc Golf course at the park is great for all skill levels. While the Championship 18 Disc Golf course offers 18 holes, it's designed to function as two different 9-hole courses. The ‘Easy 9’ is located next to the park office while the ‘Pro 9’ (that offers dual tees) runs around the pool and playground areas.

There is little to no elevation on either course and the foliage is sparse, meaning you can focus entirely on perfecting your tosses.

Shooting Range

For those wishing to practice their aim, Beech Fork has a shooting range which features six covered shooting benches and a 100-yard maximum backstop distance.

Things to Do at Beech Fork State Park

The park offers plenty of other activities that do not involve the lake.
